Beverly Wright Associate Professor b-wright [at] northwestern.com Beverly Wright and her students seek to understand how to train people to increase their ability to hear subtle changes in pitch and rhythm-skills useful to musicians, physicians listening to heartbeats, as well as people learning a second language. Currently what they have found is that passive listening plays an important role as much as active listening to train the ear. You can learn more on her lab's website.

Andy Sabin Ph.D. Student asabin [at] gmail.com Andy Sabin is a Ph.D. student in the Communication Sciences and Disorders department studying psychoacoustics and perceptual learning. His research in this lab uses knowledge about auditory perception and machine learning to design intuitive interfaces for audio processing software. Some of these interfaces attempt to learn the user's preference. You can find Andy's website here.

Ben Duane Ph.D. Student benjaminduane2012 [at] u.northwestern.edu Ben Duane is a Ph.D. student in Music Theory and Cognition. He is currently working on a system for separating contrapuntal streams in MIDI files. His other interests include computational modeling of music cognition and the perception of musical texture.
